University & College Transfer Students Admission Requirements


The following table outlines the admission requirements if you are transferring from another post-secondary institution.

If you attended another post-secondary institution, you must disclose this on your application for admission.  If you do not have the credits required to meet these criteria, you can apply under one of the following categories:

FACULTY OR PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS BY FACULTY ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Faculty of Arts

Applicants who have attempted 15 credit hours or more of approved post-secondary education must have a minimum UGPA of 60% on all post-secondary courses attempted.  Applicants with a UGPA between 50%-59.99% will be admissible to the Arts Transition Program.

Resource & Environmental Studies program: you must be graduates of the SIAST Resource & Environmental Law Diploma

  • Economics major: Math B30 or equivalent required.
  • Human Justice: 65% UGPA required on the last 5 years of post-secondary studies
  • Certificate in French as a Second Language: Placement test required. Must place at the FR 113 level and reach the Intermediate Low level on the TCOF.
  • Economics and Business Administration Combined major: must complete at least two courses in Economics with a minimum GPA of 60% before being permitted to declare this major.

Faculty of Business Administration
 

Admission to the Qualifying Year:

  • Completed 15 credit hours or more of approved post-secondary work with a   UGPA of 65% or higher 
  • Completed fewer than 15 credits hours of work and have completed high school with an admission average of 65% (based on high school)

You must complete the requirements of the diploma or degree qualifying program with the minimum required PGPA on all courses. Program admission averages are set annually by the Faculty. Program admission averages will be set no later than January 31 for the following spring term's admissions.

Faculty of Education

Attempted 24 or more credit hours of university level studies: a minimum UGPA of 65% required for selection into a Teacher Education Program.

Attempted fewer than 24 credit hours of university level studies: Selection based on high school admission criteria  and university courses.

Bachelor of Education After Degree (BEAD): Must have an approved first degree with a minimum UGPA of 65%. Applicants to the BEAD Elementary and the BEAD NTEP must have a minimum of 39 credit hours in teaching areas supportive of provincial/territorial curricula. It is recommended that students have three provincial curricula areas (9 credit hours of senior courses). Refer to the outline for the 4-year program.

BEAD Secondary: must have a major in their first degree in a teaching area with a minimum major GPA of 70%. A minor in a teaching area is recommended.

Mature admission available for NOPTEP, NTEP, SUNTEP, YNTEP only.

NORTEP students require a UGPA of 60.00% to transfer.

Teacher Education Application and Profile required

Applicants to the BEAD program who have not been awarded a degree upon submission of their application will be required to provide confirmation of their degree status from their respective institution prior to beginning the Education program.

ENGINEERING

For admission to a General major, applicants must meet high school admission requirements with a minimum 70% average, and must also have a minimum UGPA of 60% on all post-secondary courses attempted. For direct admission to a major of choice, applicants must meet high school admission requirements with a minimum 80% average, and must also have a minimum UGPA of 70% on all post-secondary courses attempted.

Registration in some programs may be limited.

Applicants who have failed more than 15 credit hours of university courses are not admissible except by permission of the Faculty.

Applicants who have failed a core requirement of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science after the maximum number of repeat attempts are not admissible except by permission of the Faculty.

Environmental Health Science
(FN Univ)

Applicants must meet high school admission requirements with a minimum 65% average.

 

FINE ARTS

  • Attempted 24 credit hours or more of approved post-secondary education
  • Minimum UGPA of 60% on all post-secondary courses attempted
  • Students who have attempted fewer than 24 credit hours of post-secondary education will be admitted based on the high school admission criteria or as a Mature Student
  • BFA & CFA in Visual Arts and BFA & CFA in Indian Art: portfolio. April 1: Deadline for Fall entry. December 1: Deadline for Winter entry
  • Bachelor of Arts in Music: Music theory entrance test
  • Bachelor of Music: Interview; music theory entrance test, audition
  • Bachelor of Music Education: Music theory entrance test, BMusEd Teacher Education Admission Profile; audition

JOURNALISM

  • Minimum average of 70% on the 60 credit hours of prescribed courses.
  • Must have an undergraduate degree conferred no later than the Spring Convocation preceding admission
  • Entrance examination
  • Interview

Application Process:

  • Cover letter (maximum 2 pages)
  • Resume (maximum 2 pages)
  • Supporting documents (maximum 10 pages) which may include samples of published or unpublished writing, reference letters, and any other relevant material; photocopies are acceptable (no audio or video tapes)

KINESIOLOGY AND HEALTH STUDIES

Must meet the high school admission criteria with a minimum 65% average

If you completed 24 credits or more of post-secondary studies, you must also have a minimum 60% GPA on all post-secondary courses attempted.

If you have a minimum 60% GPA on 15 credits or more of post-secondary studies, but do not meet the high school admission criteria, you will be considered with conditions on your registration.

Students who have failed more than 15 credit hours are not eligible for transfer to the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies except with permission from the Office of the Associate Dean of Kinesiology.

Bachelor of Health Studies Program: Restricted entry at the second year level. Students must have completed the Pre-Health Studies credit hours with a minimum average of 65% to be considered for admission.

NURSING

Must present grade 12 or the University equivalent of the following courses

  • English
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Math

If transferring with more than 15 credit hours a minimum cumulative GPA of 65% is required.

If transferring with less than 24 credit hours a minimum of 70% is required in each of the prerequisite courses.

SCIENCE

Applicants must provide evidence of having successfully completed course work in math and sciences at either the postsecondary or secondary school level. Students who are missing one or more course requirements as listed above may be admitted to the Science Qualifying Program.

Students possessing a minimum Post-Secondary admission average of 65% in at least 24 credit hours may be admitted to the Faculty of Science.

Students possessing a minimum Post-Secondary admission average of 60% in at least 24 credit hours may be admitted to the Science Qualifying Program.

Applicants who have failed more than 24 credit hours of university courses are not admissible except by permission of the Faculty.

Applicants who have failed a core requirement of the Faculty of Science (CS 110, Math 110, English 100 or 110) after the maximum number of repeat attempts are not admissible except by permission of the Faculty.

Applicants to the BSc in Chemical Technology must also present the SIAST Diploma in Chemical Technology with a 60% GPA.

Applicants to the BSc in Environmental Biology must have completed the SIAST Diploma in Integrated Resource Management or Lakeland College’s Diploma in Wildlife and Fisheries Conservation or the diploma in Conservation and Restoration Ecology with a 60% GPA and a passing grade in Pre-calc 30 or equivalent.

Applicants to the Bachelor of Medical Imaging must also present the SIAST Diploma in Medical Radiologic Technology with a 60% GPA.

Applicants to the Bachelor of Medical Imaging must have completed the Diploma of Medical Radiologic Technology from SIAST with a minimum GPA of 60% in addition to the high school subjects.

Applicants to the Bachelor of Geographic Information Science must also present the SIAST Certificate in Geographic Information Science for Resource Management with a 65% graduating average.

SOCIAL WORK

Qualifying Program:

Bachelor of Social Work:

  • Complete at least 30 credit hours of prescribed university courses
  • Minimum GPA of 65% on all post-secondary courses attempted

Bachelor of Social Work: Personal statement; Work & Volunteer/Community Experience

INDIAN SOCIAL WORK
(FN Univ)

Indian Social Work Qualifying Program:

Bachelor of Indian Social Work:

  • Complete 30 credit hours of prescribed courses
  • Minimum UGPA of 65%

Canadian Police Information Check; for the CISW or BISW, one year of human service experience; Child Abuse Registries

Prescribed courses: ISW 200, ISW 321, ISW 351, and one other ISW elective in order to be eligible to apply to the CISW or BISW program; up to two of the required courses may be in progress at the time of application,
