Alberta Admission Requirements


Update on the the use of Departmental Exams:

The University of Regina is pleased to announce a change to the admissions GPA calculation process for Alberta students. Effective immediately, the University of Regina will calculate the admission average for Alberta high school students using the higher of the high school reported final grade or the provincial reported final grade (the student must receive credit for the course).

High school diploma with five academic courses at the 30 level                                             

Arts & Kinesiology (Bachelor of Health Studies only)

  • English 30-1
  • One approved math or science course (List A)
  • One approved 30-level language, social science or fine art course (List B)
  • Two additional approved 30-level courses (Lists A or B)
65% average required.

Business Administration

  • English 30-1
  • Math 30-1 or Math 30-2
  • One approved 30-level language, social science or fine art course (List B)
  • Two additional approved 30-level courses (Lists A or B)

85% or higher admission average: Admitted directly through the Excellence Program. 

65% to 84.99% admission average: Admitted as qualifying students.

Education

  • English 30-1
  • One approved math or science (List C)
  • One approved 30-level language, social science or fine art course (List C)
  • Two additional approved 30-level courses (List C)

Education Additional Admission Requirements: Teacher Education Admission Profile and 65% average required.


Elementary Education or Secondary Business Education: Math 30-2 required.

Secondary Education programs with a major or minor in Chemistry, Mathematics, or Physics: Math 30-1 required.

Engineering

  • English 30-1

A minimum admission average of 70%-79.99% is required for admission to the general major.  80% or higher are admitted directly to major of choice.

Calculus 30 is recommended in addition to Math 30-1.

Fine Arts

  • English 30-1
  • Four other approved 30-level courses (Lists A or B)

65% average required.

Fine Arts Supplementary Information:

  • BFA/CFA in Visual Arts and CFA in Indian Arts: Portfolio required. Deadlines to submit portfolio: Fall - April 1; Winter - December 1
  • Bachelor of Music: Interview, music theory placement test and audition required
  • Bachelor of Music Education: Music theory test, audition and BMusEd Teacher Education Admission Profile required

Journalism

Pre-Social Work: All applicants are considered for admission to the Pre-Social Work Year.  Pre-Social Work is a 1-year, 30 credit hour program that must be completed in order for students to apply for admission to the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Program. Students who will complete the Pre-Social Work program requirements by April 30th of the application year may apply for conditional admission to the BSW in January.
